Ravenwing with White Scars Tryout

I've been looking for something with both worlds of a bike army. I think I found something very interesting. With the Dakka Banner I have enough anti infantry. I will have to be careful to have the banner live at least 3 rounds. The list has alot of AP2 with Plasma Guns, Plasma Talons and Grav Guns. Melta bombs and the Thunder Hammer captain for tanks. I can snipe out targets with the Thunder fire cannon. Troops could be not as durable in only 30 models but I believe good play with them can help. Its a really fun list and as soon as I get games in I'll be doing battle reports. Hope you guys like the list.

Round 3 Daemons vs Farsight/Tau

Round 3 Daemons vs Tau/Tau
I get paired up against my friend Paul. He's a great player. He knows exactly what to do with his army and with lots of tournament experience being ranked top 3 at Rankings HQ. I knew I was gonna have a tough game and I can admit I was a little bit intimidated since Im still having trouble against Tau having a record of 1-2 out of only before playing against New Tau 3 times. My lack of experience against Tau really hurt.
Right now Im at 46 pts overall to Paul's 50 fighting for Best General or even Best Overall. I cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Mission:
Primary- Table Quarter Objectives 5 total (14 pts)
Secondary- Kill Points(10 pts)
Slay the Warlord, First Blood, Linebreaker (2 pts each)

His turn 3.
Here Paul takes the opportunity that
I failed the grimoire and goes on the offensive  He goes straight for my throat which are my weak troop units.
He also starts to move onto objs and protects his warlord commander by moving him to the back. To my luck his
Barracuda still hasnt come on.

Shooting Phase.
He shoots into the horrors with sms and missiles from the broadsides until all three are gone.

During assault he keeps moving forward aggressively for better positioning.
This is the first time i see a whole tau army mive forward. scary view.

My turn 4.
I  pass forewarning, prescience and iron arm on fateweaver. also forewarning into a plaguebearer squad. i pass grimoire on star for 2up invul save.
my last squad of plaguebearers comes in.

I move my screamerstar into the middle and i also turbo boost right in front of his units during shooting phase.

Fateweaver flies forward swooping. Here
you can see where the last plaguebearers landed at the top.
I start moving into objectives.
I can only reach 2 from here and contest the middle 1 as long as my troops survive.
I spawn a single horror. more troops is good but im also giving away chances to get easy killbpoints.

His turn 4.
His Barracuda comes in.
He moves it into the middle. He shoots into the plaguebearers at the top with the
Barracuda until they are all dead.

He shoots into the lone horror with the broadsides on my his right and it also goes down. The rest of his army shoots into my screamerstar and with rerolls on my 2++ invul saves he only downs a single screamer.
Here he surprises me.
He assaults my star with his stubborn Tau commander and crisis suit unit.
I kill 1 crisis suits and 2 drone and i lose none. but with stubborn he passes his morale check.

Kill points me 1. him 5.

My turn 5
I pass presciense and forewarning on star. Fateweaver passes iron arm and flies off the table again.
Grimoire is good on my star.

My plaguebearers reach an obj and try to survive the incoming shooting phase.

Shooting phase. warp storm table roll 8. nothing eventful happens.

Assault. I kill a crisis suit, do a wound into the commander and kill a drone.
He stays due to stubborn.

His turn 5

He moves forward. He is holding the 2obj on the right.

He shoots into one of my plaguebearers with whatever can shoot it and another kp for him.

Kill points me 1. him 6.

Here he runs with his troop crisis suit team to try and contest my only obj. he shoots into my plagues with the
Cuda but doesnt kill them all. i went to ground.

He holds this objective.

He also holds this objective with his troop crisis suit team.

I call it here because he is already winning 2-0 objs. And kill points 6-1.
But before is called I give him the chance to try to kill fateweaver for slay the warlord since he wanted to get as much points out of me as he could.
Hes able to ground me and shoots me down for those extra 2pts to his score.

After he hit n run on bottom turn 6 i consolidated to contest the middle obj.

And the game ends. Major victory to him 30pts to 2pts.
I only got linebreaker. It was learning experience for the both of us.
Im still learning about Tau and this was his first game against the screamerstar.
He didnt know how nasty this unit is. He said it really surprised him.
I wished I could have been way more aggressive and just have gone all out from the get go.
I didnt give enough threats from the beginning and this way he was able to dictate what he wanted to kill at his leisure.

I want to thank Paul Mckelvey for a great time and an intense good game.

I want to congratulate him because he went on to win best general with 80 pts and took home a 1000pt  Tau Army including a Riptide.
(I gave him some shit for getting more
Tau when he already had enough. lol just playing around. he took it with a chuckle.)

How did I end up? Well for only playing
Chaos Daemons for 2 weeks and only 5 games before the
Brawl, I ended up in 12th place out of 36 players with a total of 48pts.

Overall I had a great time.
I would like to thank Mark
Reindl and Doug for putting on a great event.
Everyone received a swag bag and also a  random raffle prize. mine was a bottle of glue, a dice cup, and a bottle of putty.

I really recommend anyone that can go to this event next year to grab your  ticket early and be there. I definitely will be.

Space Marines Allies sharing transports with Space Marines.

Does anyone know if Space Marines can share transports with their Space Marine allies?

For example running Calgar in a drop pod transport with a Iron Hands Chapter Master attached to the squad.

Terminator Squad- 4x Lighting Claws, 1x Thunder Hammer

Land Raider Crusader

Heavy Support:
Devastator Squad- 2x LasCannon, 2x PlasmaCannon

I knew if I could maneuver to where I could control where his Land Raider would go and concentrate on killing his 3 troop units, this being a 5obj game, I could win this game.

Bottom Turn 1-
I pass Forewarning, prescience and scryer's gaze on my heralds.

I cast iron arm on my prince.

I pass my grimoire test on my star.

Top turn 3- his terminators with calgar move out and get ready to charge my prince. cato keeps moving to the middle.

Shooting- his land raider shoots into my screamers and actually kills 1 with the multimelta.
Assault- he charges in and challenges with calgar, i accept, they deal 2 wounds with eachother.at this point i finish off his other tac squad with my hounds.

Bottom turn 3- i pass forewarning and prescience on my heralds. i pass iron arm on my prince t8. i pass grimoire.

Warp Storm table- 5 storm of fire. nothing happens.

Shooting- Fateweaver deals enough wounds to take down
Cato with flickering fire.

Assault- I charge the land raider with my
screamers. i hit 3 times, deal 2 penetration results and on 1 i roll a 5 to explode it.
Boom goes the raider.
In combat i beat up on calgar dealing his
last two wounds. slay the warlord is mine.

White Scars Bike Armies charging.

Bikes have been a lot of fun. Grav guns are amazing on them. A squad of a combi grav, 2x gravs puts out 9 shots that are ap2 wounding depending on the enemies armour save. Against vehicles on a 6 it causes a hull point and an immobilized result. Amazing!

This is extremely good against Land Raiders (any other tanks works too).
Here is what you do:
A squad of 6 Bikers. Combi-Grav, Melta Bomb, 2x Grav Guns.
Shoot the Land Raider within charge range of it. Roll your 3+ to hit and as long as you get one 6, that tank is now immobilized.

On your assault phase, charge the Land Raider (or any other tank). Now your hitting automatically with your Melta Bomb. At str8 Ap1 armourbane you should blow it up. (Needing a 4+ on the pen table)

Against AV12 or less on the back you can glance it to death with krak grenades hitting automatically.

Mephiston needs an Invul Save!

Mephiston is simply a beast. S6 T6 2+ save. Tons of attacks (at AP3) Mastery Lv 3. With Wings you can literally have him all over the board. The only thing I see that he is missing is an invulnerable save. Many times have I've lost him to melta or plasma shots or Thunder Hammer Termies in combat. Well lets give him an Invul save.

Ally in a Dark Angels Librarian. Have him follow Mephiston around. Forewarning comes in handy too.

Librarian- Bike, Power Field Generator, Melta Bombs

Ravenwing Command Squad- Apothecary, Champion, Grenade Launcher x1, squad of 5

Tactical Squad

Marneus Calgar and his many uses.

I've been thinking a lot lately about Marneus Calgar and on different ways I could use him in my Ultra Marines army. His Chapter Tactics are awesome combined with lots of tactical and devastator squads. Allowing you to use one of the doctrines twice can really come in handy.

There's only one thing though. He doesn't really fit in a Rhino spam. There is no space for him in the 6 Rhinos full of Tactical Marines (that should be combat squadding) and since you want those Rhinos moving around there isn't much of a chance you can stay still for one turn to shoot the Orbital Bombardment.

I've think I have found a different way to use him. Let's stick him with a Thunderfire Cannon. Leave him in the backline to defend your home turf while the Tactical Marines advance forward. Doing this gives Marneus Calgar an amazing Toughness 7, 2+, and 4++. If you put him in cover he can also benefit from a very good cover save due to bolster defences. It gives you a chance to sit still and shoot off the Orbital Bombardment once plus also the blasts of your choice from the TFC. Being T7 eternal warrior with 4 wounds should help that TFC keep shooting all game. ( I wonder if you can LOS into the TFC)

Well this is just another way you could run Calgar. Have him on a home objective with some troops nearby. Even better if its big guns never tire.

Who doesn't like Combos in 40K.

Lately Ive been thinking a lot about how many neat tricks you can do with White Scars Bike armies and the awesomeness that is the new and improved Chapter Master.

We all know how you can shoot MCs with grav guns, making them init 1 due to concussive and then using Jaws to remove them off the table.

The sweet, new trick using White Scars (atleast new to me) is charging a MC or any unit with a character with multiple wounds during your turn, or getting charged by one, both works. Once in combat on their turn you challenge said MC with your White Scars Chapter Master (bike, thunder hammer, shield eternal, artificer armour) and deal a wound making the MC or character concussive ( initiative 1 until next assault phase) and then using hit n run to leave combat on their turn. Once it is your turn, in your shooting phase, you hit that concussive MC/ Character with Jaws of the World Wolf and after a failed Deny the Witch, failed Initiative test at init 1, it is removed from play.

If played right this is a great way for removing those nasty MCs and characters off the table.

I hope you guys enjoy this neat trick and it comes in handy during your games. It has for me.

Night Project. Building a Marines Chapter.

Recently i've been thinking about where to go with my Space Marines and what background I want for them. What colors do I want to paint? What kind of characters to build?

Since I'm going with Ultra Marines Chapter tactics I started to look into their second foundings. I never really wanted to just do Blue Smurfs. The one that attracted me the most ended up being Howling Griffons.

The color scheme is challenging. Not many are represented out there on the battle fields. Them always fulfilling their oaths is interesting.

I've always been wanting to learn to paint yellow so the Howling Griffons I believe will be my new choice in my new army project.
